Family Tradition

Posted by Go Halloween in Halloween

Candy you ate as a kid®

When I was a kid my mother and father used to take us apple picking in the country. This was a family tradition to do this every year in the fall. We use to visit apple orchards and pick apples and get fresh cider. My father didn’t like to go that much he was just not into it that much, but we would get in our station wagon and drive into the country. We had one of those station wagons that had the 3rd row seat facing so you could look out the back window. I can remember sitting back there. I am not sure there were even seatbelts back there. This was in the late 70s.

So we used to go to many different apple orchards. My mother is an avid baker. She just loved to bake. My father would say she would bake cookies and pies before she would clean the house.  I have to say we always had fresh bake goods in the house.  Anyways, we would go to these orchards and pick up so many apples of many different flavors from macintosh, empire, granny smith, red delicious. I still think my favorite is macintosh apples. I can still remember eating fresh apples on the way home after a long day of apple picking.

Every fall I think of those times when I was a kid doing the family tradition of going apple picking. It really brings me back to reality when thinking about my childhood.  Sometimes it feels like lately life is just flying by too fast.  Thinking of my childhood makes me think of how important life is and how we need to enjoy every minute of it.

Haunted House in Falmouth Massachusetts

Posted by Go Halloween in Haunted Tours

Do you like hayrides, pumpkin picking, and Haunted Houses?

Well if you are on Cape Cod in the Falmouth Massachusetts area you have to visit Tony Andrews Farm. At Tony Andrews Farm they have fun activities for the whole family. On Saturdays and Sundays during the month of October have Tractor Rides around their 30 acre farm and they have pumpkin picking.

Tony Andrews farm is also the home of the Harvest of Horrors. This is a haunted house developed and built by a good friend of mine Bruce Allen. He has put together a haunted house for Halloween in the Falmouth area since 1979. In the past the haunted house has been at many different places and every year he used to build it up and then take it down every year after Halloween was over. Now though he has been at the Tony Andrews farm since 1997. This has been great for him as it allows him to work on the Haunted House year round. He keeps adding to it and makes it different every year. So even if you went the year before you will still be scared as it is always changing. What makes it even scarier is that it is tucked away in a woodsy part of the farm. Which just makes it even more creepier. Don’t worry you don’t have to walk out into the woods in the dark. They will take you out there in tractor if you dare. So if you like to be scared you have to check out the Harvest of Horrors during the month of October at Tony Andrews Farm in Falmouth.

Now if you dont like to be scared that much you can visit the Harvest of Horrors during the day. They call it Kids Fest. We actually bring our children to this as they are too small to visit the haunted house at night. On the weekends in October (during the day) you can go pumpkin picking and you can visit the Harvest of Horrors. During the day the Haunted House is open to walk through and take a look at what it looks like. Don’t worry its not too scary. No one will jump out at you or scream. You just get to take a nice walk through the haunted house. My kids like it and they are all under the age of 7.

So if you are in Falmouth Massachusetts in the month of October and you are looking for something to do you have to check out Tony Andrews Farm and the Harvest of Horrors.

Do you believe in Ghosts?

Posted by Go Halloween in Halloween

Discount Costumes
My grandparents use to own this old farm house. This farm house was built back in the 1800s. It was actually bought by my great grandfather. Well we used to go to this farm house in the fall and stay over night. The place was so creepy. There was a parlor in the front of the house. It reminded me of a funeral parlor. It that had a piano in it and the keys on the piano were yellowing as it was so old. When you touched a key it was slightly out of tune. This is a true story. I am just descibing my memories of this place. There was an upstairs to this place. Upstairs there was 4 bedrooms, but there were no lights in the bedrooms. There was actually only one outlet in the hallway to plug in a light. My sister and my cousins used to sleep upstairs and man it was creepy not having a light in the bedroom.

Did we see any ghosts?

Well I am not sure. I don’t remember seeing any, but it was a real creepy house especially at night. It was hard falling a sleep as I remember lying there in bed just listening. It would be so silent, but at times you could hear the house creek.

It certainly was a neat place to visit, but very very creepy.

Do you have any ghost stories?
