Halloween Trick or Treating

Well we just got done trick or treating. The kids had a lot of fun! They wanted to keep going and going. Our 2 year old kept up with his older brothers pretty well. He actually walked the whole time. I think the thought of getting candy at each door kept him going. They were all tired by the end of walking for about an hour and a half. They should sleep good tonight.

Now that I think of it we need to change our clocks back tonight. An extra hour of Halloween!! Don’t forget to change your clocks back

2 Days to Halloween!!

Wow have you looked at that count down clock lately? Only 2 days left until Halloween. My kids are so excited they just cannot wait. This Friday they have a Halloween Parade at their school. After the Parade the Kindergarteners are going to sing some Halloween Songs and then after that the kids have a Halloween Party in their Classrooms. It should be fun Both of them are very excited for Friday and of course Saturday.

I am sure everyone remembers having a Halloween Parade at their elemetary school. I remember bits and pieces of walking in a parade and how exciting it was to see your parents on the sidelines while you walked in the parade. This was back in the 70s when the costumes you used to get at the store were like plastic trash bags that came with this plastic face mask with a rubber band to secure it to your head. I always loved how well you could breathe with the mask on. I wore glasses as a kid and my glasses always used to fog up. I hated that. The Halloween Costumes for Kids have definately changed over the years.

Pumpkin Seed Recipe

Well the kids couldn’t wait to carve their pumpkins so we did that today. It was a rainy day so it was a good day for it. Though I don’t know if it was too early to start carving pumpkins as there is a little less than 2 weeks before Halloween. I don’t want the pumpkins to rot before Halloween. The kids just couldn’t wait so we carved them today.

After the kids got the guts out of the pumpkins I thought I would take a shot at roasting the pumpkin seeds. I had done this before, but the last time I roasted the pumpkin seeds I just stuck them on a cookie sheet and put them in the oven. This time I thought I would try to flavor them with a little cinnamon and sugar.

First, I took the pumpkin seeds and rinsed them off under water to clean them off a bit. Then I melted some butter. I put the pumpkin seeds in a bowl and brushed the butter on the pumpkin seeds. Once they were covered a bit I sprinkled some cinnamon and sugar on them mixed them up until they were covered. Then I placed them on a cookie sheet and sprinkled a little more cinnamon and sugar on them for good luck. Then put them in a 350 degree oven for about 30 minutes. To be honest I don’t know how long it was, but I think it was about 30 minutes. I was cooking dinner at the same time so I just kept looking at them until I could see that they seem to be a little golden brown.

Well they came out pretty good I have to say. The kids liked them and they were fun and easy to make. I am sure there are many other pumpkin seed recipes out there. I wouldn’t mind trying something spicy like I found on Mixx News.

Hand Made Halloween Crafts

I was just searching around for some halloween Crafts and found this site called Creativity Without Borders. They make a lot of hand crafted items all very unique for Halloween. What struck me about their site is that it reminded me of my mother. My mother is very crafty and did a lot of sewing when I was a kid. Of course she still does to this day. It just brings back memories of childhood.

Just a quick short post. I just wanted to tell you we got 3 free Pumpkins from Roche Bros today! My kids were very excited. As I had said in one of my previous posts Roche Bros and Sudbury Farms Markets are running this Free Pumpkin giveaway right now where if your kids color the Halloween Coloring scene they can get a free Pumpkin.
